I was looking for another way to serve at Buckhead Church and also knew I wanted to invest in others. I mentioned it in my small group, and immediately they said I needed to volunteer in UpStreet as it would give me the opportunity to welcome parents and their children.
I signed up to find out more and knew immediately that the every-other-Sunday schedule was perfect for me as I still participate in the 9:00 service each Sunday and then volunteer for the 11:00 service every other Sunday. It has been such a blessing volunteering in UpStreet. Not only have I developed warm and friendly relationships with Buckhead Church staff, volunteers, parents, grandparents, and children, I have had my heart touched by the returning children that call me Mr. Mark when they arrive and depart.
I have an opportunity to invest in these young lives that I would not have had if I wasn’t serving there. If you are thinking about serving, don’t hesitate, as the smiles and relationships you make will warm your heart and make you look forward to serving on a regular basis. I certainly gain much more than I give, and this is why hardly a week goes by that I don’t tell the staff, “Thank you for giving me this opportunity” to serve.
